There are over 1.2 million orphaned children in Tanzania.
Whilst some may find refuge with a member of their extended family, many others end up living on the streets, working as child labours or suffering physical or sexual abuse at the hands of adults, who have been entrusted with their care.
Teacher Regan, our Social Worker, meets a child labourer on the streets of Moshi Town.
Kijana Kwanza is a grassroots charity based in Moshi, Tanzania that rescues orphans, street children and victims of abuse, providing them with shelter, schooling and life skills training. We aim to provide a loving home - whether on-site at our shelter, or in the community with supervised foster parents - and the same opportunities, which every child deserves. That includes healthy and wholesome food, regular medical check-ups, recreational activities and sports, as well as an annual field trip to visit another part of Tanzania.
