Oldham Madani Academy was acquired in 2007, originally as an old pub, with the aim of converting
it into a Mosque/Community Centre. Since then, Alhamdulillah, it has been actively serving the
Oldham community.
The Academy serves as a vital hub for Muslims from diverse backgrounds, providing a space for
salah, religious activities and seeking knowledge on Islam, the Holy Qur’an, and Islamic
Jurisprudence. These activities take place daily at the Oldham Madani Academy. Additionally, the
academy looks to promote understanding of the Islamic faith, promoting connections with the wider
community.
The building bought in 2007 had limited capacity for worshippers and classes, necessitating an
extension. However, expanding or renovating the facility would entail significant costs, as the goal
was to double the size of the mosque/community centre in every aspect.
Alhamdulillah, with the support of the community, the project to extend the building began in 2017
and took four years to complete. This expansion doubled the building's capacity, enabling it to host
over 500 attendees, compared to the previous 200. The structure grew from two floors to four,
incorporating a basement that now serves as an ablution/Wudhu area for the Academy. Notably, the
only remnants of the old building are the two outer walls, as everything else has been newly
constructed.
The entire expansion project accrued costs of £500,000. More than 90% of this sum was covered by
Qardh-e-Hasanah. With the grace of Allah, the Academy has steadily repaid this amount, decreasing
the total debt to £150,000. While the Academy intends to pursue other beneficial initiatives for the
Oldham community, its priority is to become debt-free. Therefore, the Academy humbly appeals to
all brothers and sisters to generously donate for the sake of Allah and help clear its remaining debts.
